Post Your Comment- Great question. It appears that many vendors charge so much because they can. Did they quote you the HL7 interface when you bought the software package or afterwards?
Typically we ask our clients to ask for at least 2-4 interfaces from the vendor. Normally you can get these included at a reduced rate compared to asking for them later.
Check with your vendor and see if you can negotiate a lower rate.
